Your stories, your choice

Parcane is a campaign journal that puts you in control. Choose server processing for the fullest feature set, or Device Private to keep new protected content out of cloud processing and server storage.

No sale

Your data is never sold

We do not sell or monetize your session notes, campaign data, or account information. Cloud processing and user-invoked sharing transmit content only for the selected feature.

No training

No Parcane model training

Your notes are never used to train AI models — ours or anyone else's. Cloud processing runs on paid API tiers (Google, OpenAI, Groq) whose terms contractually prohibit training on your content.

Disclosed

Audio handling is disclosed

On-device transcription does not upload audio. Cloud transcription creates temporary processing files on our server and removes them after the request completes.

Portable

Your data is portable

You can export or delete your campaigns and recaps at any time. No lock-in, no hostage data.

The Three Tiers of Privacy

We believe you should decide where and how your data is processed. Processing preferences control new protected-content actions; account, existing campaigns, collaboration, and content previously saved to the server remain server-backed.

Cloud-First

Processing happens on our servers and configured API providers. This offers the fullest feature set; content you save is stored in your account.

Hybrid

Choose local audio or OCR while allowing selected text features to use server processing. Check each action's disclosure before sending content.

Device Private

Local recap, search, opener, catch-up, and transcription paths do not fall back to cloud. New protected uploads, sync, cloud OCR, Deep Recall, and server enrichment are unavailable while active.

Preparing for limited connectivity? You can download local models and retain cached campaign snapshots in your browser. Server-backed storage, collaboration, and unsupported features still require a connection.

What the AI actually does

Parcane is designed to organize material you provide, not to author your world or decide what happens next. Generated summaries and extracted details can still be mistaken; review them against your source notes before treating them as canon.

What Parcane does What Parcane never does
✓ Organizes your notes into a readable recap ✗ Writes plot, lore, or adventure content
✓ Extracts key events, NPCs, and locations ✗ Generates characters, items, or encounters
✓ Tracks open story threads across sessions ✗ Suggests what should happen next
✓ Transcribes recordings into editable text ✗ Creates images, art, or illustrations
✓ Supports local processing for selected prepared workflows ✗ Pretends server-backed features work offline
✓ On-device transcription option — audio never leaves your browser ✗ Sends audio anywhere without your explicit choice
✓ Searches session history and can show references ✗ Should be treated as canon without review
✓ Can draft wiki changes from plain English or voice ("rename the blacksmith") ✗ Should be accepted without reviewing the proposed change
✓ Routes voice commands to the right destination (wiki, search, notes) ✗ Acts autonomously or makes decisions for you
✓ Reads handwritten notes and printed sheets into draft text ✗ Guarantees OCR is error-free
✓ Summarizes past sessions into a "Previously On..." ✗ Decides what's important in your story
✓ Creates personalized catch-ups for missed sessions ✗ Replaces the DM's storytelling or narration

The creative work — the world, the characters, the moments that matter — that's all you and your table. We just make sure you don't forget any of it.

Why we're transparent about this

We know AI is a loaded topic in the TTRPG community, and we think that skepticism is healthy. The best tabletop moments come from human creativity, improvisation, and connection — no language model can replace that, and we don't think it should try.

Parcane is a campaign journal that happens to be smart, not an AI tool that happens to work for TTRPG.

We use AI the same way you might use a spell-checker or a search engine — as invisible infrastructure that saves you time on the boring parts so you can focus on the parts that matter. You'd never call a spell-checker a "co-author," and we don't think organizing your session notes makes us one either.
